Merkel 303 20-bore shotgun review

Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick!

Classic Doom weapon, Kurt Cobain's final mic and preferred zombie mashing tool of the God among men Bruce Campbell, gets a 2012 revamp from makers Merkel.

The walnut has a subtle glow, the barrel blacking seems less dense than many modern finishes, the classic lines and obvious proof of craftsmanship are what jump out at you first with this gun.

Even with its 26.3/4in barrels, weighing just less than 7lb, the Merkel is not that light for a 20-bore. The method of construction requires a fairly deep action and the quality and therefore density of the walnut all contribute towards that weight. Its the kind that belongs on the arm of a clay pigeon shooter as a fashion accessory to really show his mates he's balling or your retirement present to sit on the wall and swear blind to the grand kids its loaded.

  1. Sweet gun man! I would love to use this at the skeet range. I currently use my Benelli Super Nova pump action at the range and it works alright. I have to be quick with the pump when shooting doubles.

  2. Kurt Cobain's final mic?! Lmao ouch dude, brutal.

I do love me some clay pigeon shooting though. Seems a little heavy, but I'd try that gun out.

  4. Say Zap, it rekindles fond memories. I was in the Royal Military College a secondary/high school equivalent for ages 15-19 yrs before university. We got to shooting with SLR(like the AK47),LMG,(both using.303 at the 100m Shooting Range).22 guns and Browning pistols at the 25m range. All these were 50 yrs ago, ancient by our standards now.But for teenagers then it was fun. We did not get to admire the walnut and such but we just enjoyed as shooters or as butt party groups (which we took turns)

  6. An evil dead remark, can't beat that. Not overly gun enthused though, but a nice one you show.

  20. A little bit of a tangent, but I wonder how much Kurt Cobain's Shot Gun is worth. I guess it's in some police evidence warehouse though.
